The NRMA Insurance Broncos tackle asthma in 2012!
Asthma Foundation Queensland’s ‘Asthma Friendly Sports Club’ program has kicked off in Queensland with thanks to the support of the NRMA Insurance Broncos.
Asthma is recognised as a major deterrent to the participation of children in sports and recreation, and a recent survey conducted by the Asthma Foundations found that only 1 in 50 sports coaches had any understanding of asthma or asthma first aid.
The Asthma Friendly Sports Club program seeks to improve the participation of both children and adults in sports and recreation, by providing much needed asthma training to sports and recreation clubs.
Our team of Asthma Educators have commenced providing asthma first aid training to a number of sports clubs and codes throughout Queensland. The training will give coaches, trainers and assistants the confidence to know how to manage a players asthma, including recognising signs of worsening asthma and knowing what to do in an asthma emergency (when someone is having an asthma attack).
As part of the program, every sporting club that completes the 1 hour workshop will receive an Asthma Emergency Kit. This kit contains all of the necessary information and items needed to help save a life during an asthma attack.
“The Brisbane Broncos support the Asthma Friendly Sports Club program which will increase the confidence of coaches and trainers within sporting clubs in knowing how to manage and recognise asthma in their teams”, said Broncos Prop and asthma sufferer, Scott Anderson.
We hope that the program will increase the number of Queenslanders participating in sporting activities who have long held the perception that their asthma can hold them back.”
Asthma Foundation Queensland has been successful in becoming one of the Brisbane Broncos Charity Partners in 2012 which will enable the Foundation to fundraise and raise awareness of asthma during the NRL season.
In an effort to give back to the community, the Brisbane Broncos Charity Partner Program was established to assist Queensland charities whose values are aligned with those of the Brisbane Broncos.
